Seikan Ferry Memorial Ship Hakkoda Maru
Japan's first railway ferry museum is housed in the Hakkoda Maru, the last ferry from Aomori on the Aomori-Hakodate route. The history of the ferry, which traveled across the Tsugaru Strait for 80 years and carried many human dramas, and the structure of the ship are on display on an overwhelming scale from basement to fourth floor. The bridge, engine room, and the wide carriage deck that carried the railroad cars are truly impressive. You can experience the romance of the sea at the chimney observation deck, where you can get a panoramic view of Aomori Port while feeling the sea breeze, and the strait culture of the Taisho era. Aomori Prefecture Tourist and Products Center ASPAM
As you walk along the sea from the east exit of Aomori Station, you will see a large equilateral triangular building. This is Aomori Prefectural Tourist and Products Center ASPAM, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2016 and can be considered the base for Aomori's tourist products. You can get all the souvenirs you need here, so be sure to stop by! From the observation deck on the 13th floor, 51 meters above ground, you can get a 360-degree view of not only Aomori city, but also the prefecture bay, including the Tsugaru Peninsula and Shimokita Peninsula. In the summer, you can see the Nebuta floats being moved for the parade, and the Aomori Fireworks Festival, which is held every year on August 7th, where the fireworks and the Nebuta floats are paraded over the sea.
